Feasting on Jesus!

Last week was such a blessing, and it honestly surprised me.

It all started at my Tuesday night Bible study. This was our second meetup of the year. The first week, we just grabbed coffee, caught up on life, and shared what the Lord has been doing in our hearts. This week, we officially jumped into Scripture together. As a group, we’re reading the entire Bible this year.

Here’s the thing, I originally wasn’t planning to read the whole Bible this year. I felt the Lord gently pulling me toward a deeper study of the New Testament (which I’m still doing). I also felt pressure to “keep up,” and that’s something I’m intentionally running away from this year. This girl is moving slow and living in grace.

As I sat there with my hot cup of black coffee, listening to everyone talk about the Old Testament, I realized I could still participate because I’ve read it before. But then something shifted. We started talking about reading the Bible simply to discover the attributes of God who He is.

That changed everything.

I became so inspired that I found myself in my Bible every single day (catching up to our next meet ups reading), reading multiple chapters, not out of pressure, but hunger. Some nights I went to the coffee shop with just my Bible and Jesus, and it was holy. After every chapter, I started writing down the attributes of God. Faithful. Just. Merciful. Patient. Near.

In Bible school, we were taught to read Scripture through the lens of Christ crucified, so I started doing that again, and wow. I found so much more than I ever did before. Passages I once rushed through came back to me with fresh depth. Things I learned years ago settled into my spirit in a new way.

I became obsessed with Jesus and His Word, in the best way.

During everyday tasks, I’d catch myself watching the clock thinking, In three hours, I get to sit down with Jesus. My heart softened. My spirit felt full. I couldn’t get enough and honestly, I still can’t.

So here’s my encouragement to you this week: Feast on Jesus.

Show up to the table. Eat His Word. Let it sink deep into your spirit. When you’re feasting, you’re not hungry, so you’re not looking left or right or getting distracted by the chaos of the world. You’re locked in on the love of your life: Jesus.

As you read, I challenge you to focus on who God is, not just how the Scripture applies to you. Look for His attributes. Sit at His feet. Be a Mary. Soak. Love Jesus. And watch your heart grow soft.

I’ll leave you with one of my favorite passages, what I like to call my Feasting on Jesus Scripture:

“God, you are my God; I eagerly seek you. I thirst for you; my body faints for you in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water… My soul is satisfied as with rich food.” —Psalm 63 (CSB)
